Shelby Westland "Legacy of Blood" Book 1

Impossible to put down. Characters are very real and believable. You are engaged throughout the entire book. A terrific and fascinating read. The author writes with an eye for detail - feels like you are living the story. Legacy of Blood is filled with authentic history, suspense, love, and lore. If her first novel is this good, no telling what Book 2 of this saga will bring.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read! ONE MILLION PERCENT! Once I started reading the first few pages, I could not put this book down. Finished it in 2 Days. A MUST READ!

The book starts out with the main character, William (a Trueblood vampire, the purebreed of the species), recounting his memory of his father (William "the Conqueror", 11th Century King of England) on his deathbed and how he got the crown to his kingdom after he died. Revealing a little bit of drama with the jealous brother and so forth, setting up rivalry for later on in the book. He also delves into the history of his ancestry and vampire lineage, stemming from the Vikings, direct in his and his family's bloodline, and also the whole vampire-creation myths surrounding how they came to be. (Love the historically-accurate facts here! That the vampires in this book were real people back in 10th and 11th Centuries! Very cool twist!) Then he goes on to thinking back to his lost love, the only woman he had ever loved so long ago, Quinnlyn, whom he misses so desperately it makes you want to cry.

So basically the first part of their love story is told and set in 1710, when they first meet at a Palace outside London. They spend a long weekend there at the Queen's social event of the year (reminding me of my love for English Regency-type romances!), playing lawn games during the day and dancing long into the night. Their bond is absolutely magnetic and the longer they spend together, the more they are drawn to one another, both feeling something that they've never felt before. But too bad for William, his vampire instincts kick in whenever she's around and he has a hard time controlling himself when she's with him and she has no idea why. (Love the humor in some of these scenes too, actually made me laugh out loud!)

Throw in some downright-spicy(!!) love scenes, family drama, dark secrets, and tragic goodbyes, then flash-forward 300 years later to 2010, where they fatefully reunite once again at the same exact place on the same exact day and magically find each other standing there, thinking their love was long-dead! (Heart-wrenching scenes that lead up to this, don't want to spoil it for you, soooo emotional, it was beautiful! I cried!)

Then the next half of the book is told and set in modern-day London, where they go on a journey to find themselves and the love that they had shared all over again. They have to come to terms with their painful pasts, the lies that they had told, the jealousies that arise with some new characters, and finally expose all their dark secrets as other intriguing vampires are thrown into the mix. Then, of course, comes the cliffhanger! (Love the new vampires that are introduced! Hope she tells their "stories" in the other books!)

I can't say enough about this new book! It has everything I love! History, London, Vampires, Vikings, Mystery, Sex, Humor, Family drama, Heartache, and just a beautiful and sweet love story.

She is very descriptive with her writing and historically accurate that you don't just follow along with the story, it feels like you're actually living the journey with them. Amazing! (As I was reading, I could see this book very easily turning into a movie, it was that good!)

And I just love her writing style, very poetic or melodic almost and she uses very beautiful phrasing. But yet it's written so simply, It draws you in so easily. Very compelling. I just couldn't get enough! I highly recommend this book!!! To anyone who loves a really good vampire romance, or to anyone who loves a really good romance, period!
The Legacy of Blood is not your typical VAMPIRE book...the author does an amazing job focusing on their LOVE STORY and making it as realistic and relatable as if it were ordinary humans involved. So anyone that loves reading traditional romance novels, historical romance, contemporary romance, vampire romance, etc. will definitely LOVE LOVE LOVE this new book!!

It has elements from each genre...with about half the book set in the early 1700s London scene and the latter half set in present day. She also includes a few intriguing flashbacks towards the end that help develop more of the storyline and background of the Royal Vampire family, answering some of the mysteries and questions...without giving away too much!...that surround the fascinating family tree. And I just love the fact that she uses REAL-LIFE people from history as her main characters, it brings such an interesting twist over the other vampire books out there!! BRAVO!! Of course, with that, all the little historical details added into it makes it seem like it really could've happened, or that you're really there when you're reading it.

Check it out like I did (generally I'm skeptical of the whole "cheesy" vampire romances that are out there in wild abundance these days, but my friends just RAVED about this book), I promise you will NOT be disappointed.

You'll fall in love with William and Quinnlyn!

And the CLIFFHANGER at the end....ooh!
