Texas Bride A Bitter Creek Novel Joan Johnston 9780345527448 Books Reviews
Overall impression is that I really enjoyed the book. The characters are likable and their reactions to the things that happen to them believable.
This is my first Joan Johnston book and I will purchase the books that are the follow-up to this series about here missing sisters.
While I understand that she has previously written books that predate this there were some stories that probably go into greater detail in other books. The story of Jack's father and his missing sister gave really good information about his charter and what shaped his attitude but the fact that there is no further acknowledgement of them is frustrating.
While I am excited about three more books that follow Miranda's missing sisters I can only hope that the family the family will be reunited.
Really enjoyed the book. It certainly pictured the harshness of the West and uncertainty women lived with. Looking forward to reading other books by the author.
Well as usual Joan Johnston did not disappoint, I loved this book could not put it down. I really enjoyed the way she tied in characters from previous books especially Cricket Creed and what happened to her Husband Jarrett. It all kind of fit together the pieces from the more modern Blackthornes and Creeds. If your on the fence about whether or not to get this book don't let the negative nellies here stop you its a wonderful book and yes one reviewer seemed to be appalled by the abuse the children suffered but back then those things really happened its a fact of life just as those kinds of things happen today also and turning a blind eye to doesn't make it not true. Bottom line is if your a fan of Joan Johnston give it try.
Dude Review being fond of plantation style homes, i felt mighty comfortable from chapter one. Great story, simple plot with no crazy twists, not too much rollin in the hay, but a good amount of sexual tension and depth to characters that'll make you fall in love with each and every one of them especially the children. I think it's a great concept of a story, great feel to the characters, just felt like the ending could have been a bit more, but it's simply my personal opinion. One thing's for sure, I definitely intend to read her other book's that are part of this series. It's a pleasant and easy read
Texas Bride will remind any woman of her thoughts about first love and then marriage. Only, in the old days when the western territories were being settled and women were often "advertised for as mail-order brides", a reader can only imagine what would await an eighteen year old's Only Choice as an answer for ANY future. A sight-unseen husband in Texas who needs a wife sends the requested First Class tickets and meets Miranda looking more like a waif of a child and the story unfolds. A suspenseful tale unfolds that will leave its reader not wanting to put the book down!
This was a great western romance. Full of adventure and Family love and tough stubborn characters. Read Jake and Miranda's adventure. The author is great and I have read some of her stories. Sit back, relax and get comfortable with this book.
THIS IS A REVIEW, NOT A SYNOPSIS. A SPOILER ALERT IS NOT NEEDED.
Joan Johnston excels at writing romance novels with interesting plots, believable characters, and flowing dialogue. While there is a certain predictability, Johnston provides us with unexpected plot points, much as the unforeseen sharp curves or bumps on a previously traveled road. She is adept at quickly aligning the readers' sympathies with the protagonist(s), clearly defining them as likeable individuals. Even her antagonists are imbued on occasion, with traces of conscience. This makes them all the more human. Johnston's dialogue is not stilted, blending seamlessly with the narrative.
Her passion for the West rings true. She clearly has done her research, giving the reader background information in a way that few writers achieve; by showing, not with lengthy, lofty explanations. The concept of a mail-order bride in the old West is not a new one, but using accurate historical information, Johnston's romantic tale is a fresh take on the facts.
This romance is perfectly choreographed. There are just enough tense, flirtatious, and sexy moments to keep the reader turning the pages. We are left waiting impatiently for the Bitter Creek sequel(s).
